Trent was part of a back 4 that conceded 22 goals in a season. He’s by no means Maldini but has shown he can be decent in a proper well drilled set up.

On the ball he’s one of the best ever, I’m a bit shocked this is even a debate tbh.

That true but he really has not been the same last tow seasons likely Slot gonna play him in midfield. He have good future as midfielder

I think many use this as a stick to beat him with however there are a lot of fullbacks in this era that are shaky defensively, I would say it’s more of a set up thing. When Fabinho was at his best, I rarely used to see many highlight this as much as they are now.

I remember even when Dani Alves was at his peak (no I’m not comparing the two before anyone jumps in) people were nitpicking at the defensive side to his game because one or two players got the better of him. Seems like people want players that are flawless these days lol

Trent is top quality footballer but most agree pretty suspect defensively.

Similar to Zinny on the left for us but Trent is far better at crossing & long balls.

I wouldn't want him over Ben White unless maybe we had a super solid LB.

Yeah I don’t disagree there are a lot of defensively weak fullbacks. I do think Trent is on the worse side though. I genuinely think Zinchenko is better defensively.

Also agree regarding Fabinho. Him and a more in form Van Dijk covered a lot of the defensive shortcomings.

I’m not questioning Trent’s ability on the ball, mind. It’s more that I’d rather a Ben White who’s defensively sound and can contribute in attack. Also why I don’t want Gutierrez for our left side and why I wouldn’t want Frimpong on the right. Cancelo, while not the strongest defender, is a really good example of what I’d be looking for. I rate him higher than Trent. Theo Hernandez would be the perfect lb imo. Good attack wise but also can stand his ground defensively, mainly because his speed.

He’s not though, gets simple 5 yard passes wrong all the time. Caught out of position often and cant turn when receiving the ball. Can hit a ball on a set piece & thats about it. Average at defending also IMO. Not a bad player but nowhere near elite.

What is it you think he’s particularly good at?
