🍪 At Children’s Place Association, we believe learning different skills is essential for thriving in life. This summer, our Thrivers didn’t just enjoy delicious snacks—they learned how to make them! From mixing ingredients to sharing with friends, our little chefs discovered the joy of baking and the importance of creating something with their own hands. 🎂🥄These experiences are more than just fun—they’re building blocks for confidence, teamwork, and lifelong learning. 🌟#chicagokids #cpachicagokids #CPAkids #childthrive #positiveimpact #communitysupport #communitystrong #communityimpact #communitypartners #partnerships

Can Small Food Businesses Spark San Francisco’s Revitalization? Join San Francisco Housing Development Corporation for a #FoodwiseTalk TONIGHT, Wednesday, February 28, at 5:30pm, presented by Foodwise at SHACK15 at SF San Francisco Ferry Building. Speakers include Pia Harris San Francisco Housing Development Corporation, Emiliana Puyana La Cocina - Nonprofit Kitchen Incubator , Nafy Flatley Teranga Foods, and Christine Farren Foodwise. As San Francisco, especially the downtown Financial District, struggles to fully recover from the pandemic, pop-ups and other innovative projects have sprung up to breathe life into vacancies. Food businesses are essential to this revitalization, contributing to San Francisco’s diversity, creativity, and vibrancy. But are we putting an undue burden on these small businesses to solve systemic problems? Join Foodwise & SFHDC for a conversation with local leaders about collaborative efforts to support small food businesses, and what we can all do to shape our city’s future together. The biggest school meal program in the United States is the National School Lunch Program (NSLP), which was created under President Harry S. Truman in 1946. Food insecurity has risen in recent years, so having this program is important. However, for children with ARFID the school cafeteria can be a scary place. Will there be something for the child with ARFID to eat? Will the kid next to them eat food with a strong smell? Will my friends tease me about the food I bring? Will the child be able to eat in front of peers?#arfid#arfidawareness#arfidsupport#eatingdisorders#eatingdisordersupport#youarenotalone#arfidcircle#schoolcafeteria#schoolanxiety

🌟 Exciting news from the heart of Detroit! 🌟After 14 long years of meticulous planning and community effort by Malik Yakini and team, the Detroit People's Food Co-op has officially opened its doors in the North End neighborhood! This isn't just another grocery store; it's a beacon of hope and a revolutionary step towards combating food insecurity in the area. For those unfamiliar, the cooperative model of this store means it's owned and operated by community members themselves—giving power back to the people! This allows for critical community-led decisions on pricing and sourcing, ensuring the goods are affordable and cater to the local needs 🌱.👨🌾👩🌾 The co-op's primary focus? Providing fresh, healthy, and affordable food options especially in areas known as food deserts. These are areas where access to such resources has been traditionally scarce, affecting many residents' daily lives.Having worked closely with community development projects, I've seen firsthand how powerful these initiatives can be. They do more than just sell food—they build community, empower residents, and foster a sense of ownership and pride among members.📣 What are your thoughts on the role such cooperatives play in promoting food justice and community empowerment? Have you been involved in or benefited from similar models in your area?Let's discuss how we can support and replicate such impactful models in other communities. Your stories and insights are valuable!#FoodJustice #CommunityDevelopment #Cooperative #Detroit #FoodSecurity #Empowerment #InnovationInFood

My wife and I love watching the Great British Baking Show (you can find it on Netflix). It’s a reality show where amateur bakers from around the United Kingdom compete against each other to be crowned the UK’s Best Amateur Baker. It’s hilarious, emotional, stressful, and hunger-inducing.One of my favorite segments is the “technical challenge” where the contestants are given a few key ingredients with minimal measurements and instructions for how to complete the challenge (such as Treacle Pudding, which turned out to be one of the hardest technical challenges ever on the show). Many of the technical challenges are not nearly as hard as Treacle Pudding, but the greatest bakers know how to mix the recommended ingredients to create something special and memorable, AND hopefully receive the all-elusive-hand-shake from Paul Hollywood.I issued a technical challenge of sorts this week related to crafting small events to cultivate major gifts for your cause.Search for #breakthruevents to find the three key ingredients I suggested (minus some of the more detailed instructions and nuances). If you would like a little more collaboration on how to get the best result from your event, schedule a free 30 minute call with me to talk further (https://lnkd.in/duEhJdby).That may be plenty, but if you need more time, my sessions are $400 for up to 90 minutes each.It is hard to overstate the potential return on investment of your time and resources on this.#majorgifts #smallevents #invitation #keyingredients #preparation #learning #investing #fundraising
